LONDON — Thanks to its ethical low-risk approach, Islamic banks have managed to weather the global financial crisis, achieving high growth rates in 2009, a new study has found.

“A conservative approach to risk and close links between the financial sector and real assets has helped shield the sector from the worst of the credit crisis,” Brian Caplen, editor of the Banker Magazine, said in the study cited by Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The study, commissioned by the London-based magazine and a unit of HSBC Bank, said Islamic finance institutions have overcome the crisis that harshly hit conventional banks.

A financial firestorm swept the US and the world in September 2008, after the demise of Lehman Brothers, one of the Wall Street giants.

It has knocked down many major companies worldwide, causing mounting job losses, falling household wealth and forcing consumers to hold back on spending.

The study attributes success of the Islamic banks to rules that forbid investing in collateralized debt obligations and other toxic assets that caused the financial crisis.

The rules of Islamic banking and finance read like a how-to guide on avoiding the kind of disaster that is currently gripping world markets.Islam forbids Muslims from usury, receiving or paying interest on loans.

Transactions by Islamic banks must be backed by real assets — not shady repackaged subprime mortgages.

With Imhalal.com we can see the first religious search engine. According to Islam the content on internet can be classified into “halal” and “haram”.
The search engine filters out the content that is considered forbidden or “haram” showing a negative search result.
The website is positioned at religious Muslims all around the world who wish to surf the net without bumping into explicit content.

To reach it’s Halal goal, the site seems to be using two methods. One is by filtering out “Haram” sites and contents, and this can be seen clearly from the Image search, which is still in Beta.

Islam is often looked upon as a “extremist”, “terrorist”, or “fundamental” religion. Many people hate Islam and do not want to acknowledge its true teachings. In many cases, the media’s reports about Islam are incorrect due to ignorance. This is one of the reasons why the West often hates Islam. In contrast to what many Westerners think of Islam, Islam is a peaceful religion, which does not promote any forms of uncalled for fighting or “terrorist” actions.

It is really strange and pathetic that foreign media always highlight or link the news with religion if some thing done by Muslims Like ( Muslim father killed his son), but on the other hand if same action committed by person of other religion media never highlight his religion. it shows the double standard of media with Islam. ‘സലഫീ നഗറ്‍’, ‘സലഫീ നഗറ്‍’ എന്ന് ബസ്‌ കണ്ടക്ടര്‍ ഉറക്കെ വിളിച്ചു പറയുന്നത് കേട്ടാണ് ഞാന്‍ ഉറക്കത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് ഞെട്ടിയുണര്‍ന്നത്. ഉണര്‍ന്നു നോക്കുമ്പോള്‍ സമ്മേളന നഗരിയില്‍ ബസ്‌ നിര്‍ത്തി ആളുകള്‍ ഇറങ്ങുകയാണ്. ആരെങ്കിലും തന്നെ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്നുണ്ടോ എന്ന് സസൂക്ഷ്മം നോക്കി ഞാനും ബസ്സില്‍ നിന്നിറങ്ങി. ഇത്ര വലിയ ആള്‍ക്കൂട്ടമോ മുജാഹിദ്‌ സമ്മേളനത്തിന് എന്ന് ആശ്ചര്യപ്പെട്ടു. ഒരു പക്ഷെ സമ്മേളന പന്തലില്‍ ആളുകള്‍ കുറവായിരിക്കും എന്ന് ആശ്വസിച്ച്ചുകൊണ്ടു നഗരിയിലേക്ക് നടന്നപ്പോള്‍ റോഡരികില്‍ വലിയ ഗേറ്റ് കണ്ടു: “മുജാഹിദ്‌ മൂന്നാം സംസ്ഥാന സമ്മേളനം…. കുറ്റിപ്പുറം സലഫീ നഗറ്‍” ഗേറ്റിനകത്തുകൂടെ കടന്നു നേരെ സമ്മേളന പന്തലില്‍ പോയി ഇരുന്നപോളാണ് ആരും തന്നെ കണ്ടില്ലല്ലോ എന്നതില്‍ ആശ്വാസമായത്‌. സലീമിന്റെ നിര്‍ബന്ധത്തിനു വഴങ്ങിയാണ് മുജാഹിദിന്റെ സമ്മേളനത്തിന് വന്നത്. സ്നേഹപൂര്‍ണവും നിരസിക്കുവാന്‍ പറ്റാത്തതുമായ അവന്റെ ക്ഷണം അവഗണിക്കുവാന്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.നാട്ടിലെ തീവ്ര സുന്നിയായ ഞാന്‍ അവനോടു സലാം പറയാറില്ലെങ്കിലും അവന്‍ എന്നെ കാണുമ്പോഴെല്ലാം സലാം പറയാറുണ്ട്.

പുളിക്കലും ഫറോക്കിലും വെച്ച് നടത്തപ്പെട്ട രണ്ടു സമ്മേളനങ്ങളിലും കുറച്ചു ആളുകളെയും ചില അറബി ശൈഖുമാരെയും പന്കെടുപ്പിക്കുവാന്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞ ഹുങ്കായിരിക്കും നമ്മുടെ ജില്ലാ സമ്മേളനത്തിന്റെ അത്രവരാത്ത ഒരു മൂന്നാം സംസ്ഥാന സമ്മേളനത്തിന് അവരെ പ്രേരിപ്പിച്ചത്. മുജാഹിദുകളെ വിമര്‍ശിക്കുവാന്‍ വേണ്ടിയെങ്കിലും ഒന്ന് പങ്കെടുത്തുകൂടേ എന്നുള്ള സലീമിന്റെ പ്രേരണയാണ് എന്നെ ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഇവിടെ എത്തിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഞാനിവിടെ മുജാഹിദിന്റെ സമ്മേളനത്തിന് എത്തിയത് നാട്ടിലെങ്ങാനും അറിഞ്ഞാല്‍‍ പിന്നെ അതുമതി ആകെ പുകിലാവാന്‍. മുജാഹിദുകള്‍ക്കെതിരെ ഗര്‍ജ്ജിക്കുന്ന

അഹ്ലുസുന്നത്തിന്റെ എല്ലാ ഉസ്താദുമാരെയും നാട്ടില്‍ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു പ്രസംഗിപ്പിക്കുവാനും മുജാഹിദുകള്‍ക്കെതിരില്‍ നിരന്തരം പോസ്തരുകള്‍ ഒട്ടിക്കുവാനും, അവര്‍ ഒട്ടിക്കുന്ന പോസ്തരുകള്‍ നശിപിക്കുവാനും ഒറ്റയാള്‍ പട്ടാളം പോലെ ഓടിനടന്നിരുന്ന, നാട്ടില്‍ വലിയ നിലയും വിലയും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഞാന്‍ ഈ സലഫീ നഗറില്‍ എത്തിയെന്നു ഒരു ഈച്ചയരിഞ്ഞാല്‍ മതി നാട്ടിലെ എന്റെ സകല വിലയും ഇടിയാന്‍. About 500 Muslim professionals from all over Kerala assembled in Kochi today at the Professionals’ State Conference organized by the Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen and its youth wing Ittihadu Shubbanil Mujahideen. They listened to various study classes about Islam and participated actively in the interactive sessions. The conference was held at the Abad Plaza from 10 am to 5.30 pm.

The conference was inaugurated by AP Abdul Qader Moulvi, general secretary of KNM. He recalled how the Mujahid movement worked to make the Muslim community aware of the importance of giving treatment when ill and providing good education. People understood and followed all the matters related to material life said by the KNM, but they ignored the spiritual matters. That is why, the KNM takes up da’wa with importance to Thouheed as the most important thing, said Moulvi.

The well-educated professionals of the Muslim community have a big responsibility of spreading the message of Islam, said TP Abdullakoya Madani, president of KNM, while giving the presidential address. The great scholars of the nineteenth century tried to bring people back to free thought and the path of Allah after Muslims went away from the right path. This duty should be carried on not only by the scholars but each and every Muslim, said Madani.

The assembling of this number of professionals actually shows the power of the Muslim society, said Prof KV Thomas, Minister of State for Agriculture, who was the chief guest at the conference. Read the rest of this entry »
