The Qur’an and Modern Science
As we all know, The Holy Qur’an is the last scripture that has been revealed to mankind by the Creator. The term ‘Qur’an’ has the meanings of ‘the recitation’, or ‘that which is to be recited’ and of ‘that which is recited.’
Qur’an introduces itself as Furqaan (2:53, 2:185, 3:4, 25:1) which means ‘the criterion to distinguish between truth and falsehood.’ The Qur’an also describes itself as Kitab (The scripture), Dhikr (guidance), Burhaan (evidence), Shifa (cure), Kayyim (that which is pure), Muhaymin (that which preserves the previous scriptures).
The Holy Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) over a period of approximately twenty-three years (610 – 632 AD). There are a lot of facts which proves the Devine Origin of Qur’an. One among them is the scientific truths revealed in Qur’an which were discovered centuries later. Below mentioned are a few of them.
CREATION OF THE UNIVERSE: ‘THE BIG BANG’
The creation of the universe is explained by astrophysicists in a widely accepted phenomenon, popularly known as the ‘Big Bang’. According to the ‘Big Bang’, the whole universe was initially one big mass (Primary Nebula). Then there was a ‘Big Bang’ (Secondary Separation) which resulted in the formation of Galaxies. These then divided to form stars, planets, the sun, the moon, etc.
The Qur’aan contains the following verse, regarding the origin of the universe: “Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one Unit of Creation), before We clove them asunder?” [Al-Qur’aan 21:30] Read the rest of this entry »
