Islamic Halal Search Engine
With Imhalal.com we can see the first religious search engine. According to Islam the content on internet can be classified into “halal” and “haram”.
The search engine filters out the content that is considered forbidden or “haram” showing a negative search result.
The website is positioned at religious Muslims all around the world who wish to surf the net without bumping into explicit content.
To reach it’s Halal goal, the site seems to be using two methods. One is by filtering out “Haram” sites and contents, and this can be seen clearly from the Image search, which is still in Beta.
When searching for various keywords or celebrity names for example, results from ImHalal.com are much more decent in this regard than Google and Yahoo in their strict mode.
The other method is the black listing of keywords, ranking them with “Haram” scale of 1 to 3. If the “Haram” level is 1 or 2, you get a warning plus an option to move forward. For e.g. when we searched “sex” it says, “Oops! Your search inquiry has a Haram level of 2 out of 3. This means that the results fetched by ImHalal.com could be haram!”
Though at first two levels it still allows the users to access the content through a tab “If you still think the results will be clean click me!” but not at the “haram” level 3.
Surely this is a unique service and would help to bring more religious Muslims to the net. So far so good the idea is novel and benefitting but what if they start blocking websites on more political reasons than religious?

It is indeed a unique service to the mankind as a whole and not to be restricted to Muslims only. Google and Yahoo have no restrictions for the explicit contents which lead innocent ones to astray by the errenous click of mouse. “I’m Halal” may not attract all, other than Muslims for its Muslim connotations. So far so good. All the best
